AMERICAN EXPLORER
A free audio guide to the United States, from TG Studios.

All fifty states, the District of Columbia and the five inhabited US
territories. Fifty six in all, with a quiz and a comparison tool.

Keyboard only, and built to be used with the screen off.

TO RUN IT
Open the folder and run "American Explorer.exe". Nothing is installed and
nothing is written outside your own user folder. Keep the files together:
the program needs the _internal folder beside it.

SPEECH
It works this out for itself. If you run a screen reader, it speaks through
that, in the voice and at the rate you already use. If you do not, it speaks
through the Windows voice. You are not asked anything on the way in.

F7 switches between them when both are available.

KEYS
Every letter belongs to the search filter, so no command is on a bare letter.

Up and Down move through a list
  Enter choose
Escape clear what you typed; press again to go back
Left and Right change the setting you are on
Home and End first and last item
any letter narrow the list to what matches
Backspace delete a typed letter, or go back
  F1 help
  F2 and F3 music volume
  F4 and F5 sound volume
  F6 a random fact
  F7 switch the voice
  Control R say that again

Typing R H O finds Rhode Island. Every list works this way.

WHAT IS IN IT
Browse by region five mainland regions plus the territories
All states all 56, type to narrow
Quiz capital cities, state nicknames, or which region
Compare two states population, area, statehood, region
  Random fact 224 of them

For each entry: an overview, capital, population, major cities, industries,
agriculture, history, what it is famous for, geography, and its own facts.

SETTINGS
Speech rate and pitch, music and sound volume, menu sounds, high contrast,
four text sizes, and braille output. Everything saves as you change it.

Settings live in %APPDATA%\AmericanExplorer\ so they survive reinstalling.

COST
Free. Use it at home, in a classroom, in a library, on as many computers as
you like. No licence to buy and no seats to count.

CORRECTIONS
The geography is compiled from public sources and offered for learning. If
something is wrong, or reads badly, please say so.
